THE OCEAN COUNTY SPECIAL NEEDS REGISTRY
The Ocean County Special Needs Registry is a voluntary service open to all citizens with disabilities who reside, attend a school, or are employed in Ocean County. The registry was created to help police officers and other emergency service personnel to better assist residents with special needs in the event of an emergency by providing those first responders with vital information regarding a registrant’s disability, emergency contact information, and a physical description, and current photograph of the registrant.
NOTE: All Individuals who are of legal age (where there is no power of attorney or guardianship) can only register themselves.
PROJECT MEDICINE DROP
Dispose of Unused or Expired Medications
The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs has developed Project Medicine Drop to combat a growing and menacing problem of abuse of unused or expired medicines that accumulate in average homes. Overdoses and deaths have increased in staggering numbers.

Ocean Gates' s Drop Box is in the Municipal Building and available 24/7 by either walking into the building during business hours or contact the police department in off hours.
Disposing of unused medications in a safe manner is a national problem and there are important environmental reasons, as well as problems of misuse, not to just conveniently throw unwanted medication down the sink, toilet or in the trash. Many drugs are not completely absorbed by the human body and pass through wastewater treatment plants. Measurable levels of these drugs have been found in our waterways and in the fish in them. Some medications, even at low levels, may affect fish reproduction.
BLUE HOPE
BLUE HOPE is a law enforcement initiative designed to assist Ocean County residents suffering from substance use disorder. These residents can report to any BLUE HOPE police department and be directly linked to a licensed provider/agency for an evaluation and assistance in the navigation to treatment. BLUE HOPE is a law enforcement initiative to SAVE LIVES.

house watch program
As a service to the community, the Ocean Gate Police Department performs house watch patrols of residences while citizens are out of town. To request a house watch patrol of your residence, to access the House Watch Request Form click the HouseWatch icon. You may also stop by the Ocean Gate Police Department Monday-Friday 9-3:30 to pick up a form.
Please complete the online version or drop off a copy of the form prior to the date you leave for vacation. Upon your return to your residence, it is important that you phone the Police Department to notify the dispatcher of your return. If you have any questions regarding the House Watch Program you may call the Ocean Gate Police Department at 732-349-2010.
Report a Street Light Out
As we do our part in reporting street lights out to JCP&L quarterly, there are times when additional lights may go out in between those time frames.
To report a streetlight out you may contact JCP&L's automated reporting line at 1-888-544-4877 or online at http://www.firstenergycorp.com
1. Select "REPORT OUTAGE"
2. Under "OUTAGES" click on "REPORT LIGHTING PROBLEM"
Please have the following information ready in advance so you may complete the request:
- Your name and telephone number in case more information is needed
- Address where the streetlight is located - nearest house and/or nearest cross street
- The number on the pole (located at eye level on the pole)
- What is wrong with the streetlight, i.e., damaged pole, broken light fixture, light on during the day, light is flickering, light out
Please note that most streetlight outages can be repaired within a few days; however, the repairs can take longer if equipment needs to be replaced.
